Back in the SLC

Friday, November 14th, 2003

I applied to the University of Utah & ITT Technical Institute here in Salt Lake City. Both schools have the classes Im looking for geared to ISS. I have temporarily given up on the Gaming Industry as its too volatile, and the money is far less than I’m looking for. Not to mention that its pretty much feast or famine as you jump from one game and studio to another.

I will however continue to pursue game development as a hobby with my spare time. I have been contacted again by Richard Cowgill a.k.a. “Iggy” of Trauma Studios to work on Desert Combat (a total conversion for Battlefield 1942).

Trauma and I are still in talks about joining the team to make some levels for Desert Combat. I would love to make a few Desert Combat maps since it looks as though Stormforge & Umbra Pax for HL2 is on the back burner as Valve’s Halflife2 source code was stolen, and word on the streets is that there is no ETA on the SDK for Halflife2.

Tracker Trouble

Tracker

Well, Its been a long month since I have been offline. I turned of my internet service in San Diego on the 19th of October, packed up my Gamer rig, and headed for Salt Lake City. This was a 3 fold trip. I was going to sell my house in Salt Lake City, attend the NUA Smackdown LAN Party, and drop off my computers and my car somewhere safe until my return on November 1st.

Well, first off my Motor mount broke on my car somewhere between Barstow and Baker California. I’m convinced that the Mojave desert really doesn’t like me as that’s also where I blew 3 pistons on my MR2 in 1999. Somehow I managed to hobble my car up to Salt Lake where my Leather top on my GEO Tracker proceeds to literally rip off my car.

NUA Smackdown

But, good news is that I did indeed make it to NUA Smackdown! I met a lot of people, and had a really good time when I wasn’t off sneaking to meet with my realtor. It did end rather quickly for some reason. A lot of people had the flu, of which I did catch and suffer with for 2 weeks afterwards. But even though it didn’t last till the wee hours, it was still lots of fun. Thanks to Clan NUA for the invitation. And now that I am back to living in Salt Lake I look forward to doing this again.
